 You may have heard gardening experts refer to palm trees as “self-cleaning”, but what does this phrase mean?

Palm trees produce one leaf (or frond) at a time, and once a mature tree has developed a full “crown” of leaves (which can be anywhere from 5 to 120 leaves) the tree must lose a frond every time it produces a new one.

Self-cleaning palm trees drop off these old, dead fronds without any help from gardeners. However, it can be hard to tell whether these fronds are going to eventually fall off or you should get someone in to carry out a palm tree cleaning.
